While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not issued a mandatory recall of any hernia mesh product approved for use in the United States, several manufacturers of this type of surgical mesh issued voluntary recalls of mesh from hernia operation. They pulled other brands of hernia mesh from the market after patients suffered complications or a high incidence of failure.
Some recalled hernia surgical mesh products include:
- Atrium’s C-Qur
- R. Bard, Inc.’s 3DMax
- R. Bard, Inc.’s Ventralex ST
- R. Bard, Inc.’s Composix Kugel Mesh
- Ethicon’s Physiomesh
How Do I Know If I Received a Recalled Mesh Implant?
If you know the manufacturer and brand of the mesh patch used in your procedure, you can search the FDA’s recall database online.
If you do not know the manufacturer of your hernia mesh implant, talk to your doctor about your concerns.
If you suffered hernia mesh complications or required revision surgery, we may be able to pursue compensation on your behalf. As a part of this process, we request your medical records and identify the manufacturer and brand of the hernia mesh patch you received.
You May Have a Case Even Without a Mesh Recall
All too often, people who underwent surgical hernia repair later experience complications due to the mesh patch used. This can include:
- Pain
- Increased risk of infection
- Hernia recurrence
- Adhesion
- Bowel perforation and/or perforation
- Mesh migration
While the FDA claims the manufacturer recalls removed the mesh products to blame for most serious complications, people continue to report complications and require surgery to remove, re-do, or revise the mesh repair. We are currently meeting with these victims to help them understand their legal options.
